"Twelfth Night" by William Shakespeare is a comedic tale of mistaken identities, love, and revelry. The play is set in the land of Illyria and begins with a shipwreck, separating twins Viola and Sebastian. Viola, believing her brother drowned, disguises herself as a man named Cesario to serve Duke Orsino. Orsino is in love with the Countess Olivia, who rejects his advances. The subplot involves Olivia’s household, where Sir Toby Belch, Sir Andrew Aguecheek, and others concoct a scheme to humiliate the puritanical steward Malvolio, leading to comic confusion. As the plot unfolds, Sebastian arrives in Illyria, adding to the mistaken identities. Ultimately, the twin siblings are reunited, true identities are revealed, and love triumphs as Viola and Orsino, along with Olivia and Sebastian, find their rightful partners. "Twelfth Night" explores themes of love, identity, and festive disorder, offering joyful resolution through wit and unexpected twists.
