Synopsis

"Romeo and Juliet" is a tragic play by William Shakespeare that unfolds in the city of Verona, Italy, and tells the story of two young lovers from feuding families, the Montagues and the Capulets. Romeo Montague sneaks into a Capulet party where he meets Juliet Capulet, and they fall instantly in love, unaware of each other's family ties. Despite the bitter rivalry between their families, they secretly marry with the help of Friar Laurence, hoping their union might end the longstanding feud.

Tension escalates when Tybalt, Juliet's hot-tempered cousin, challenges Romeo to a duel. Romeo initially refuses but is compelled to fight after Tybalt kills Mercutio, Romeo's close friend. In a fit of rage, Romeo kills Tybalt, leading to his exile. Meanwhile, Juliet's parents arrange a marriage to Paris, and to avoid it, she takes a potion that induces a death-like sleep.

Unaware of the scheme, Romeo believes Juliet is dead and takes his own life beside her. When Juliet awakens and finds Romeo dead, she takes her own life as well. The tragedy ultimately reconciles the feuding families, who unite in grief.
