Synopsis

"As You Like It" is a pastoral comedy by William Shakespeare that explores themes of love, identity, and the contrasts between court life and country living. The play begins with political intrigue at the court where Duke Frederick usurps his brother, Duke Senior, forcing him into exile in the Forest of Arden. Meanwhile, the young and spirited Rosalind, Duke Senior's daughter, is also banished by Frederick but decides to flee to the forest disguised as a young man named Ganymede, accompanied by her loyal cousin Celia and the court fool, Touchstone.

In the forest, Rosalind encounters Orlando, a noble young man who has also escaped persecution, and whom she secretly loves. Under the guise of Ganymede, Rosalind tests Orlando's affections by playfully courting him. The forest becomes a place of transformation for many characters, leading to multiple romantic entanglements. The story culminates in a series of revelatory events and marriages. Duke Frederick's change of heart restores peace, and Duke Senior is reinstated. Shakespeare's play is celebrated for its exploration of love in various forms, gender roles, and the interplay between reality and disguise.
